BOARDMEMBERS FOUNDATION

MRS. MARTHA AKUMU, CHAIR PERSON

 

Living in Ngong; about 30 km from Nairobi city, teacher in a primary school near her residential neighbourhood. Since the establishment of the foundation in 1992 involved; first as a committee member, now elected as the chairperson of the foundation.Through her proffession she is very much concerned with children from poor families and the importance of education for this target group.

MR. F. SIBONDO ODUAL, SECRETARY

 

Pensioner,has worked as an highschool teacher and official for the Goverment of Kenya, and as the secretary of an Church Organisation. Is involved with the administration and other issue's of the foundation from the beginning. His motivation to work as an volunteer for the foundation is to create opportunities for needy children by education. Mr Odual assist in all school issues regarding the sponsored children.

MRS. N. MWANGI, TREASURER

At the meeting during the NGO women conference in Nairobi 1985, she was one of the women who planned the education sponsor project for children in the slums to assist the needy. She workes towards expansion of the projects in other towns and travels on her own expenses to support the Foundation.

 

ORIGIN
The Watoto wa Kenya Foundation was founded in August 1990 in Amsterdam the Netherlands, after the International Women Conference in 1985 in Nairobi Kenya at the initiative of Board Members who participated in the conference , in cooperation with other groups and churches in Nairobi.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To provide nursery and primary education for children in the age from 4 to 15 years from needy families, situated in underprivileged communities in Kenya. Create income generating activities and opportunities for women from the same communities, to provide for necessaries of life for their families.
